Every single one of us has set ‘new year, new me’ goals at least once in the past. And we all set those goals because we want better health, we want to be fit, and we want to live a long and healthy life. That’s why we look for new diet plans, we start exercising and making adjustments to our lifestyles in order to achieve those goals. Unfortunately, there are always some setbacks that steer us away from the path towards reaching them. That usually means abandoning those health and fitness goals before some tangible progress is made. If you don’t want to make that mistake again, keep reading!
Before you start putting in work
First of all, you need to devise goals that are realistic and achievable. Before you start working towards achieving your goals, you need to focus on setting them properly. Set specific health and wellness goals you want to reach. These goals need to be meaningful. You need to know why you want to achieve those goals. Last but not least, you have to be realistic about the goals you set. The vast majority of people fail because they set unrealistic goals. This also applies to the time frame you set since you don’t want to overwork yourself in order to achieve something for a short period of time. Remember that nothing happens over the course of one night. Allow yourself a realistic amount of time to reach your goals.
Diet is an all-too-important factor
In order to achieve your wellness goals, you have to find the right diet. Not paying attention to what you eat will most certainly get you nowhere. In order to find all the right foods, you need to think about the role food plays in your life. Ask yourself whether you use food as a comfort tool. Are you one of those individuals that deprives themselves of food in order to lose weight? In order to eat healthy, your relationship with food needs to be healthy. Do not focus on all the foods you can’t eat. Steer that focus towards the foods you can eat. Listen to your body and adjust your diet. One sure way to enhance your diet is to eliminate junk food and add more fruits, veggies, lean proteins and whole grain into your diet. However, nowadays there are sophisticated diet plans such as the chrono diet and ketogenic diet. chrono diet revolves around timing and the key is that you don’t eat two meals in less than four hours. On the other hand, ketogenic diet aims at shifting your body into a ketogenic state e.g. your body stops relying on glucose and rather uses ketones for energy. Keep in mind that achieving this metabolic state isn’t easy, particularly with a busy lifestyle, but according to many professionals, it works extremely well. It all comes down to your personal preferences: listen to your body and don’t ignore the warning signs. If you’re feeling good on your new diet, stick with it; you’re on the right path.
A backup workout plan
Sometimes even when you stick to the plan, there are going to be days when finding time for your training session is a challenge or simply not possible. You might have to go on a trip abroad, you might end up stuck at your office desk working long hours and you may even get sick. We’re humans, it’s okay. But instead of getting discouraged, devise an action plan for days when doing your regular workout is not possible. If you can’t visit the gym due to a late meeting, try a workout video at home. If you’re feeling anxious or too stressed, go for a yoga class instead of hitting the weights. Even a 10 to 15 minute walk with your pooch can be a nice exercise and it surely is better than slouching on your sofa in front of the TV. You need to compromise on days when exercising is a challenge. Some exercise is way better than none!
In order to be successful, you need to be patient. Nothing happens overnight, and it goes without saying that in order to meet and maintain your wellness goals you need to commit to more than a month or two, making it part of your lifestyle. Being patient is essential if you want success in the long run, and that is why it is critical to set reasonable, achievable goals! If you lack patience, try making shorter-term goals, like monthly goals instead of aiming too high and going for yearly goals. Of course, that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t think and dream big!
